Art and creativity on the beach for two age groups!

AM Session- For YOUNG artists ages 6-10 (as of Sept 1)
Tues/Wed/Thurs
9:30 am-12:30pm

Each AM session focuses on a new theme so no two weeks are alike. Young artists will learn about some famous artists, experiment with some fun art making processes and engage their imaginations and creativity to create 2-3 of their own masterpieces. Young artists should have mastered basic skills like cutting with scissors, applying glue and painting with a brush. This session includes a walk to the gazebo for a snack break and some free play in the studio.

PM Session: For OLDER artists ages 9-13 (as of Sept 1)
Tues/ Wed only
1:30-3:30 pm

Each PM session focuses on different art processes and techniques used by the Masters of Art. Older artists will create more independently and individually, and explore more complex art techniques while focusing for longer periods of time to create 2 of their own masterpieces. Older artists should have knowledge of basic art elements of line, shape, color, form, value, space, and texture. This session includes a snack and social break.

Weekly Themes:

Week 1: June 30-July 1, 2

AM: (6-10 Years) Starry Skies & Sunset Seas- From glowing sunsets to swirling night skies, artists explore creating dramatic skies and ocean scenes. The focus is on bold color, movement and texture with emphasis on imagination and painterly fun!

PM: (9-13 Years) No PM Session Available

Week 2: July 7-8-9

AM: (6-10 Years) Famous Art Remix at the Jersey Shore- What if Mona Lisa went to the beach or Picasso’s Cubists surfed? Re-imagine famous artworks with a fun, silly and creative twist. The focus is on mixed media, originality and storytelling with an emphasis on imagination and humor!

PM: (9-13 Years) Fun with Abstract Painting- Loosen up and create without expectations, limitations or rules. Scrape, drag and layer paint and other media to express yourself with color and shape. Draw inspiration from master artists of Abstract Expressionism and the processes they used.

Week 3: July 28-29-30

AM: (6-10 Years) Pop Art at the Beach-Turn beach icons like shells, sunglasses and surfboards into bold Pop Art prints and paintings. The focus is on being bold and graphic with an emphasis on color and repetition!

PM: (9-13 Years) Monoprints & Multiples- Explore the magic of the printmaking techniques used by Master artists. Carve, ink, press and pull to make art that experiments with color, texture and imagery. Create your own edition of prints!

Week 4: August 4-5-6

AM: (6-10 Years) Shells, Sand & the Seashore: Take some time to explore the peacefulness of nature and the beauty of the shore. The focus is on found objects, careful observation, and drawing details with an emphasis on texture, color and light!

PM: (9-13 Years) Mixed Media Collage- Tell stories, express ideas and push your artistic boundaries by crafting unique layered artworks using collage and journaling techniques inspired by Master artists. Experiment with a variety of materials and combine them all by cutting, layering and mixing elements to create artwork that tells your story, captures your mood or showcases your style.
